Historical Holsters
HH ~ FRONTIER CAVALRY SCOUT
(Pattern Pending)
This holster and belt slide combination is extremely rare and may be a “one of a kind.” From examination, It appears to be a modified Forsythe U.S. Cavalry holster. The larger full flap closes with a Sam Browne stud and provides more protection for the pistol. Instead of a buckle strap, the drop loop around the holster is laced like many later Lawrence brand holsters. There appears to be a folded belt slide with ten 3/4″ cartridge loops and a horizontal Buscadero slot that the holster belt loop goes through. The width of the slide appears to fit a normal 1 3/4″ military belt. It seems that the holster could be unlaced and removed from the belt slide and worn on the belt without it. The entire rig was just one more way to carry additional bullets in a dangerous land. From the Saddle Tan color we conclude that it may have been worn by a Cavalry Scout. We can recreate this set in any of our colors for any western revolver. Call and we can discuss pricing ~ P.O.R. (Just thought you might want to look at the phot

When England adopted the Webley, the remaining Enfield’s were sent to and used by the R.C.M.P. Royal Canadian Mounted Police up to the turn of the century. When one of these was retained by a retiring or officer leaving the service, the normal procedure was to remove the Enfield name from the frame. SMOC ~ MAIL ORDER COWBOY ~ AUTHENTIC OLD WEST WORKING COWBOY CATALOGS SINCE 1886
(Original 10768 holster in our collection) Did you know that this mail order company dates back to 1886. Richard , a railroad agent in Minnesota sold a box of watches to other agents for a profit. In 1887, he hired Alvah as a watch repairman. The two began a small mail order catalog and the rest is history. Ranchers and cowboys in the old west began to order holsters, gun belts, and saddles because the quality was always good. “’These large catalogs were also enjoyed in cowboy outhouses for other reasons.” The color was walnut. MAIL ORDER GUNSLINGER ~ FULLY FLORAL TOOLED FOR THE MORE DISCRIMINATING COWBOY
The owners of this mail order catalog were well known for sending agents out West to see just what the cowboys and ranchers need and wanted. When they came across a world class gun leather maker by the name of C.M. Cain, of Tyler, Texas, they must have made a binding agreement with him to create these beautiful floral creations just for the catalog customers. These rigs came with full floral and vine hand tooling. The holster has one single drop loop. These could be ordered with several tooling patterns as well as gun belt styles. Holsters were created for most popular hand guns of the era and barrel lengths. Holster including tooling ~ $184.95. Many law enforcement officers in the old west would invest a large chunk of their income in a fancy engraved, nickel plated revolver and a gorgeous, floral carved holster and gun belt. This tactic was actually told to me, and used by my friend Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson. Lined holster including tooling ~ $199.95. Unlined gun belt with 12 cartridge loops in your caliber with tooling ~ $239.95, for belts under 50″. For belts over 50″ P.O.R. Additional loops at $2 each. For gun belt lining add ~ $49.95. HEISER “BIG IRON ON HIS HIP”
Marty Robins released his gun fighter ballads in the early 90’s. One of the his favorites was “Big Iron on his Hip.” That refers to a Colt Single Action Army in 7 ½” and using .45 Long Colt cartridges. On the frontier the main concern was to protect your gun and secure it from falling out of the holster. The Big Colt did not have adjustable sights so a holster could be made to sink your pistol deeply into it. This famous Heiser replica holster is plain, but the lines are graceful. This is a very authentic Old West holster. Unlined with edge groove ~ $149.95. For lining add ~ $49.95. For hand floral carving or basket weave add ~ $49.95. Gun belt would be tapered and have 18 bullet loops in your caliber centered in the back. Unlined with edge groove~ $159.95. Additional loops add ~ $2 per loop.

HH-T3P ~ TOM THREE PERSONS – CHEROKEE LAWMAN
(Original photo sent to us) Tom was a Rodeo star in Arizona, an Army veteran, and a lawman with four law enforcement agencies. The angle was slightly toe to the rear like the FBI cant. The welt was wider at the top tapering to single thickness. Most strangely it had a rivet in the toe that held a leg strap which was not common in his day. The cartridge belt was 2 1/4″ wide. This was truly a gunfighter’s rig. Tilghman was portrayed superbly in the 1999 TV movie “You Know My Name.” We visited Ft. Smith and interviewed numerous historians, museum staff, and the wonderful folks at the Ft. Smith National Historic Site to create this double drop loop closed toe holster, gun belt and buckle from the movie. His original blue Colt working gun is still on display in the Davis Collection in Claremore, Ok. We were allowed to examine and hold Bill’s nickel engraved Colt at the “Boot Hill” museum in Dodge City, KS. Our movie adaptation of Tilghman’s Holster, cartridge belt and buckle in cowboy brown~ $324.95
Finally we have access to the original Bill Tilghman holster, gun belt, six shooter, and badge. Note the unique decorative stamps that were hand crafted for this reproduction. Our version of the holster, gun belt, & buckle in cowboy brown after personal examination. ~ $474.95. For toe plug add $20. This set was discovered by http://www.vaquero.photography and graciously shared with us. If you need superior photos of your gear, your family, or projects we totally recommend you contact Verne.
(Original Photo) Bill Tilghman Quote: When asked how he lasted over 50 years in law enforcement he said “A man who knows he’s right has an edge on a man, who knows he’s wrong.”
HH – MHT~ MARSHAL HECK THOMAS
Heck Thomas wearing a single drop loop Colt SAA 7 1/2″ holster with “Fish Scale” tooling. A folded “Money Belt” style, billeted cartridge belt, and clip cornered buckle. This belt has a mix of necked down double rifle loops and pistol cartridge loops. Heck’s elderly daughter gave this gun belt to their family friend and Milkman. In later years, he passed it down to a younger friend. The photos we used to construct this Heck Thomas belt are from those of the current owner. While in Ft. Smith we continued our research and found numerous other photos of “Heck” and his gun leather. Holster, double loop gun belt and buckle~ $474.95. For toe plug add $20. At other times Heck wore a narrower, 2 1/2″ wide single bullet loop gun belt. You may substitute this gun belt with full bullet loops except under the holster if desired. Holster and belt in chocolate, photo shows antiquing and distressing, add $40 per piece. Quote: “I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned, or see you hang in Fort Smith at Judge Parker’s convenience. Which will it be?”
HH- MCM ~ MARSHAL CHRIS MADSEN
The third member of the “guardsmen,” Marshal Madsen wore a double drop loop, closed toe holster, a 3″ billeted, folded cartridge belt, and ornate shield brass buckle. Wide belt has six double loops for rifle cartridges and a “Lawman” shield style buckle. Additional research in Ft. Smith revealed many other photos of “Chris” and his gun leather. At other times the Marshal wore a narrower, 2 1/2″ wide single bullet loop gun belt. You may substitute this gun belt with full bullet loops except under the holster if desired. Madsen was in the Danish army and the “French Foreign Legion” prior to joining the U. S. Cavalry fighting Indians in the west. When war with Spain broke out he was a volunteer “Rough Rider” with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba at San Juan Hill. Later he was a U. S. Marshal in Oklahoma Indian Territory killing over 300 outlaws with the Guardsmen. Holster, belt and buckle~ $474.95. Holster and belt in walnut, photo shows antiquing and distressing, add $40 per piece.
HH – FRISCO SHOOTOUT ~ “The Legend of Lawman Elfego Baca”
“Six Guns Were His Calling Cards.” An 1884 New Mexico newspaper headline read “Nineteen year old Elfego Baca held off 50 heavily armed cattlemen in a furious gun battle at the village of “Frisco” (now Reserve, NM) Baca knew and worked with both Billy the Kid and Texas Ranger James B. Gillett. It is thought he learned gun fighting skills from both. In 1958 Walt Disney made this historic shoot out into a TV series and later a movie “The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca.” This series can still be purchased on Amazon. (CLICK ON PHOTO FOR CLOSER VIEW)
The First holster, in our collection, is from Socorro County and most likely was the same maker that made Baca’s rig since this was the only saddle maker in that area. The billeted gun belt has sewn on tongue & buckle ends. Bullet loops before and after the holster. The Colt 7 ½” New Mexico / West Texas Acanthus tooled style holster has a single drop loop skirt with decorative stamping and hand tooling. With edge groove ~ $374.95, including 18 loops in your caliber. Additional loops available for $1 per loop. For decorative stamping, floral carving, or basket weave add ~ $49.95.
(CLICK ON PHOTO FOR BETTER VIEW) This Second holster in our collection is from the Socorro area also and was obtained at the same time. Research reveals that Elfego may have worn a second gun belt over the right shoulder and under his left arm as a shoulder holster. Holster is slightly toe forward, making it very usable as a shoulder holster or belt holster. Our adaptation with sewn seams and edge groove ~ $349.95, including 18 loops in your caliber. Additional loops available for $1 per loop. For decorative stamping, floral carving, or basket weave add ~ $49.95. We did extensive research on Baca, his guns and gun leather in Socorro, Reserve, and Albuquerque. We tracked down one Colt and his badge to a museum in “ALB” and the other to a private owner. (Please take the time to read our April 14th POST with the complete history on Elfego Baca’s life and legend. It will help you understand the man and the times)

MEXICAN “COWBOY ERA” GUN LEATHER
HHLS- THE LEGEND OF SOCORRO (One black Belt in stock – for right hand holster – 39 1/2″ to 42 1/2″ – ready to ship)
There is a legend of a Mexican PALADIN along the Mexican border and the El Camino Real during the old west. He wore a gun belt with large oval conchos that flashed in the sun. His nickel plated Colt pistol was deadly accurate and he struck fear into the hearts of bad men. The word Socorro means to get relief, If shouted it means “Help.” The meaning comes from Spanish with the thought of coming to aid or offering help or relief. Depending on your belt size this rig can hold up to 6 conchos at 2 3/4″ tall and 3 1/8″ long, with a matching concho buckle. These conchos are not thin or tinny but are of buckle quality. The unlined belt without holster is $449.95. The Socorro holster is a lean South of the border Slim Jim style with a gorgeous tangle of Mexican vines and leaves. In addition it has several small four pedal flowers, each one with a nickel stud in the center. You can choose an “unlined” holster with an edge groove- $99.95, or with one line of edge stamping- $124.95. Lined holster with full tooling and silver studs- $174.95. Holster can be made with an FBI cant or straight hang and is tightly wet formed to a Colt 1911. RIO GRANDE VALLEY RANGER – 1915 (Tom “Whispering Tom” Mayfield)
This rig just surfaced at the Tulsa Wanamaker 5000+ show. Colt 1911’s had just been released for the civilian market at this time and most were reserved for the U.S. military for WW1. However Colt and the Texas Rangers had a bond every since Captain Walker received two of the first Walker revolvers in 1847.
“Whispering Tom”Mayfield also served as a deputy sheriff in Hidalgo County. He got his nickname because he had his throat cut during a brawl and he could no longer speak above a whisper, but the bad guys could hear him and did what he said. RTS – RANGER TRAPPER RIFLE SCABBARD
(Original in the Chisholm’s Trail gun leather collection)
Modeled after Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson’s Winchester 1894 “Trapper” short barrel saddle scabbard. Many Rangers ordered a no nonsense tough rifle scabbard with “no frills or dressings.” Built for hard use in the saddle this scabbard has cut outs along the stitch line for the saddle straps. Ranger Jackson kept his scabbard on the front floorboard of his vehicle within easy reach. With no riveted loops this removed the problem of scratching your gun while taking it in and out. Scabbard ~ $179.95. Two saddle straps with heavy duty buckles ~ $49.95. Edge stamping adds – $20.00. Full basket weave or Sheridan carving available. Also available the Ranger folding knife belt pouch, Elk’s tooth watch fob and chain, Horse hair hat band, and reproduction badge.

RSD1- STANDARD DUTY 1
These are not issue holsters, but they will hold up to the extreme conditions Rangers put their gun leather through. The current issue Texas Ranger pistol is the Sig Sauer P-226 in .357 Sig caliber. Rangers have a lot of leeway when it comes to firearms and holsters. Many opt for other guns and other calibers but some like to carry the issue pistol. After an in depth study of this gun and with the combat proven pattern input of John O’rourke Gunleather (www.gun-holsters.com) we have been asked to create an unencumberd, slim, belt slide holster to carry this semi auto. No frills just function. Nothing “added” to make the profile thicker.
This classic style and FBI angle allow this fairly large gun to be worn as close to the body as possible creating very little outline with a shirt, windbreaker or sport jacket covering it. Constructed from heavy 9-10 gauge wet formed leather and will fit up to a 1 3/4″ duty belt. Unlined belt slide holster with edge groove only ~ $124.95. With one line edge stamp ~ $134.95. With Basket weave or pineapple checker ~ $149.95. With full tooling flowers and vines ~ $159.95. For lining add $24.95.
RSD2- STANDARD DUTY 2
These are not issue holsters. However, we have been asked to create a classic holster for Rangers with a look at the past but updated for today’s Officer and his combat needs. Just like the above holster we completed a serious study of this gun and once again called on the pattern input of John O’rourke Gunleather (www.gun-holsters.com). Like the SD1 we wanted to create an unencumberd, over the belt holster to carry this semi auto. The “No frills just function” attitude continues. This style positions the gun grip away from the body. It is cut lower in the front for faster draw and muzzle on target. Constructed from heavy 9-10 gauge wet formed leather to fit up to a 1 3/4″ duty belt. This holster is lined & closely wet formed to the gun. Lined holster with edge groove ~ $149.95. With one line edge stamp ~ $159.95. With Basket weave or pineapple checker ~ $169.95. Not all old West lawmen resisted change. Some, like this old Ranger, saw the intelligence of having a fast shooting pistol with seven rounds instead of six and a very fast reload. It was said that Texas Ranger Captain John Hughs right arm was shattered in combat with Indians in the 1870’s, and when healed ,could not raise a gun out of his holster if it was mounted high on his belt. We were told that he tried several lowered holster styles before the “Buscadero” was created. This early example is not a true Buscadero, because a normal holster can be mounted on this attached “BELT SLIDE” and be worn as low as you want. Or you can remove the holster from the belt slide slot and wear it as normal higher on the belt. This is a great combination. Holster with edge groove, jock strap drop loop and belt slide ~ $174.95. With hand floral carving or basket weave add ~ $49.95. With out belt slide ~ $149.95. With out jock strap drop loop ~ $124.95. SAHS ~ FEDERAL AGENT REVOLVER ISSUE
Early Federal Agents were armed with either Colt or Smith & Wesson 4″ barrel revolvers. Since they had to wear a coat, there was a need to protect the gun from wearing a hole in the coat’s lining. In addition, they needed to draw fast so they did not use a snap safety strap across the gun. Instead they had an adjustable welt that held tension against the frame of the revolver with a screw attachment made popular by Special Agent Hank Sloan. This style was so successful that in 1960 and all agents were issued this holster. With edge groove ~ $124.95. To add one line of edge stamping ~ $10. With edge groove ~ $124.95. To add one line of edge stamping ~ $10. For full coverage like basket weave or flowers & vines add ~ $49.95. For lining add ~ $49.95.
SWA ~ SOUTHWESTERN PEACE OFFICER
With the advent of double action revolvers, early agents most often went with Smith & Wesson or Colt. Unlined holster with edge groove~ $124.95. With one line of edge stamping add $15. With full coverage like basket weave or flowers & vines add $59.95. We would suggest a 1 3/4″ six shot cartridge belt slide in your caliber for an additional $59.95. Standard issue would have been a 1 3/4″ Garrison belt and nickel or brass buckle ~ $124.95. This holster would look even better with a 2 1/2″ gun belt and special buckle ~ $149.95. For bullet loops add $2 each. Bishop and his partner Claude Tyler were involved in many deadly shootouts. He fired the fatal shot that killed Al Spencer, the last train robber in OKC. As a special note, Bishop’s partner Tyler invented the famous “Tyler (T) Grip” to make revolvers fit hands easier. In this image, Special Agent Bishop is wearing a frontier style Mexican loop holster with a “cocked and locked” Colt 1911 on his right side. On his left side he has a Colt SAA tucked into his belt full of cartridge loops and a single 1911 clip pouch. Colt 1911 holster, belt, buckle and mag pouch ~ $349.95

JB ~ JELLY BRYCE ~ FBI “QUICK DRAW” GUNFIGHTER
Special Agent Bryce was a snazzy dresser. In those days they were called “Jelly Beans.” An outlaw that lost a gunfight called him that and the name stuck. Agent Bryce’s bark was as bad as his bite. Jelly got in many gun fights and always won. He was killing so many bad guys a reporter asked if he had any interest in bringing them back alive. He said he was more interested in bringing himself back alive. The FBI hired Bryce from the Oklahoma City Police because he was a gunfighter and they wanted him to teach their agents how to carry a gun and shoot. Because of Jelly’s unique crouch and draw, his holster had to be carried toe to the rear. This became the famous “FBI rake or cant.” The holster in the photo was most likely made by his father Fel Bryce, who was a famous leathercrafter. Our version includes his unlined floral tooled holster, from descriptions and photos, 1 3/4″ gun belt, and 6 loop bullet slide~ $399.95.
For matching cuff case add ~ $89.95. On November 12, 1945, Life Magazine had a photo showing his floral tooled Ranger style belt. Our version including fancy heel bar buckle and keeper~ $174.95 Floral tooled holster alone ~ $149.95. Jelly’s rig is in progress- The original is for a four inch S&W (N) frame. At this time in history, agents could choose their own guns, caliber, and gun leather.
Note: Special thanks for critical input from Mike Conti, author of several novels on Bryce. We recommend all three books for the early FBI. See Amazon for “Jelly Bryce: The Legend Begins.” Also thanks to Phil Chriswell, early special agent holster historian. Additional thanks to Ron Owens, author of “Legendary Lawman.”

In fact, Jelly Bryce was at Quantico in 1937 providing firearms training to FBI agents when this holster appeared. Later on, all new Agents were given a choice of an S&W M&P in .38 SPL with a 4” barrel or a Colt’s Official Police revolver. This new gun leather was a safe choice, helping agents avoid the trigger upon drawing. Holster with edge groove ~ $124.95. With one line of edge decorative stamping add $10. With basket weave or floral tooling add $49.95. Bryce’s fancy floral tooled pant & gun belt and heel bar buckle ~ $174.95

Real vintage original Border Patrol leather gear is fading into history. There are numerous examples where headquarters has been told to discard and destroy leather gear that is no longer being used- why? Would it not be smarter to sell these items to make back at least a percentage of the cost the government to purchase? We are currently corresponding with several of the “Old Guard” Border Patrol veterans and trying to obtain samples of this gear to reproduce before they are gone forever. Some original examples are below:

This can be one of the most dangerous jobs in Law Enforcement. Even the “Hope Diamond” was transported and guarded by the Inspectors. Off duty officers are allowed to carry their private weapons after they qualify with them. Some of the “Old School” like to carry revolvers, especially the Ruger Security Six, a previously issued revolver, built like a tank and can eat .357 ammo for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. GPH ~ GENERAL PATTON HOLSTERS
General Patton wore two holsters that were almost identical. Although he had one made for both sides for both guns, the right hand one he wore most was for a Colt SAA and the left one was for a S&W Registered .357 magnum. They had ivory grips- not pearl. This holster was made from personal examination of the original Patton holster and currently is the only correct one in production. Can be made right or left hand for either pistol. Our Version ~ $159.95 (snap protector can be used to keep from scratching the pistol- as shown ~ add $10.) For toe plug add $20. Patton Quote: “Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way. “
GENERAL PATTON’S SMITH & WESSON HOLSTER ON LEFT
GPCS~ GENERAL PATTON CARTRIDGE SLIDE
General Patton’s main gun was his first Colt Single Action Army and, when worn, he always carried a 12 loop cartridge slide in .45 Long Colt caliber which gave him two additional reloads. This slide was made to fit a 1 3/4″ belt. We can make this in your caliber to fit any width of belt. Our Version ~ $99.95 Patton Quote:“A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood.”
GPGB ~ GENERAL PATTON GUN BELT
Between WW1 and WW2 General Patton had several custom gun belts made on a military pattern 1 3/4″ wide with brass or black grommets to hold U.S. web gear. The distinctive 2 piece buckles are held on with Chicago screws so you can remove and polish the buckle. If you would like the buckle hand sewn on with 3 lines of stitching like the original, add $74.95. Patton used both brass and leather keepers at different times. We use leather keepers. Our version of the belt with your choice of U.S. or Rampant Eagle buckle~ $174.95. To blacken & antique buckle add $5.00. Order an additional U.S. or Eagle buckle to interchange – $49.95 Patton Quote: “Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.”

The flap is secured with a brass Sam Browne stud at the bottom. ~ $99.95. Construction requires assistance with expensive box stitching machine to complete. (NOTE: In discussing this pouch with the Patton museum we found out that it was too small to be a hand cuff case, but it did fit Patton’s G.I. WW I compass perfectly. Patton Quote: “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.”
*** This is a really nice pouch to add to your authentic General Patton collection. (In stock) *** Don’t forget to order our hand made replica of General Patton’s WW1 pocket watch compass below. (In stock)
GPUSC ~ GENERAL PATTON’S WWI REPRODUCTION COMPASS
General Patton was issued one of these compasses in WW I and it fits perfectly inside the Patton Compass case above. Solid brass and nickel plated like the officer’s models. Reproduction compass is well constructed and the correct. U.S. is engraved on the cover. Assembled specially for the Chisholm’s Trail General George Patton Collection ~ $49.95. (Limited quantity available)
CH380SH ~ 380 COLT HAMMERLESS MODEL (M) TANKER HOLSTER
General George S. Patton wore one of these under his coat at meetings. These photos are some of the very few ever made of this EXTREMELY RARE holster. The photo on the right is an unknown copy. This style was issued in this custom size for special operations to be used by certain officers. Wouldn’t we like to know why the original holster in this photo was issued to Colonel Noah Dorius, U.S. Army during WW2. The normal Tanker shoulder holster was issued to carry the much larger Colt 1911. Note: this shoulder holster is specially down-sized and made to fit the General Officer issued 1903/08 Colt hammerless auto in .32 and .380 calibers.
Even in the movie, Patton can be clearly seen pulling his .380 out of this style Tanker holster when shooting at the Nazi plane strafing his men. To me, this small size is just plain cute, if you can call a holster cute. Visible in the photos are several obvious deviations from the normal larger “Tanker” holster. The stitch line around the front slot is curved instead of sharp cornered. The distance from the slot to the bottom of the holster is much shorter, and the (US) in side the oval is significantly smaller. Our version of this holster, including single shoulder strap ~ $159.95. For a miniature US in an oval add ~ $10. For a shoulder strap and chest strap add ~ $24.95 (recommended). Add an adjustable shoulder pad ~ $24.95. (If you have a Colt .380 or .32, you really need to click on the photos for larger views)
GP1911- General Patton Colt 1911 holster
General Patton was seen occasionally with a Colt 1911 holster on his famous belt. This holster followed the pattern of his other holsters and had a snap strap. Most likely made by S.S. Myers. Our version of this holster ~ $159.95 Patton Quote: “Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.”
GPCDS ~ GENERAL PATTON COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL BELT HOLSTER
General Patton, commanding the Third Army, is armed with a Colt Detective special in a photo shaking hands with Lt. General Alexander Patch, commanding general of the 7th Army in France in 1944. Patton designed this holster to have a very flat back and present a minimum shape when worn under a coat. He could also turn it around in put in a pocket with no shape visible. As shown ~ $149.95.
GPFA~ GENERAL PATTON UTILITY / FIRST AID POUCH
This custom made First Aid Pouch was also designed by General Patton to hold a specific list of items. M1917 ~ COLT AND SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1917 (N) MAGNUM FRAME – MAJOR JOHNSTON, WW 2
(Original photos) Major Johnston, 2 BTN 334th INF HQ’s Group, WW2
Two revolvers were issued early in WW 2, Colt and Smith & Wesson 1917 in 45 ACP. The only holsters available were the old WW1, half flap holsters, worn on the right side butt to the front. This was a slow and cumbersome way to draw in combat. Word went out to the finest holster makers in America for a specific holster to fit these guns. The best, Heiser and Lawrence, stepped up to the plate and produced a superb, heavy duty, holster specifically for these revolvers.
One of the U.S. Army’s great heroes, Major Johnston carried this holster on his U.S. Model 1936 web belt, using a military pistol belt steel hook hanger . The revolver holster had an additional piece sewn to the reverse, using the back piece from a Colt 1911 flap holster attached to secure it on a web belt, as can be seen in the photo above. This was a private holster order by soldiers, not military issue. Our unlined version of this holster ~ $124.95. With snap strap add ~ $10. With belt hook sewn on the back to hold to web belt add ~ $14.95. The belt spacing on the normal holster will fit well over a web belt. For lining add ~ $49.95. For an excellent heavy duty replica of the US Army 1936 web belt add ~ $74.95 This is a great way to carry any S&W (N) frame magnum such as the Highway Patrolman, Model 29 .44 mag, etc. Can be worn with or without the web belt connector.

U.S. MILITARY TANKER SHOULDER HOLSTERS
1911USA ~ US ISSUE STYLE COLT 1911 SHOULDER HOLSTERS (M3, M7, & M9)
Often called the “Tanker Holster” since it was common to issue tank personnel with pistols instead of rifles in the confined space. Designed to carry the 1911 Colt .45 pistol and Beretta 92 in 9 mm. It’s rugged, boot-camp tough and made to safely and comfortably carry your semi auto. Normally stamped “U.S.” on the front with military markings on the back side. The model M3 had one strap to be worn across your chest and over your shoulder with the holster under the left arm. The M7 had two straps, one over the left shoulder and one across the chest, often with a widened shoulder strap attachment to spread the weight of the heavy 1911. Don’t confuse our Tanker with cheap foreign, thin leather and poor sewing. This holster is heavy weight 7-8 gauge, top grain, American tooling leather, sewn with 346 High density nylon thread and lock stitched. This rig is combat ready and will stand up to any abuse.

VICTORY MODEL PILOT’S SHOULDER HOLSTER
When the U.S. got involved in WW2, the Army Air Corps asked for the development of a shoulder holster. The normal Colt 1911 and the belt holster were just too large and inconvenient with the pilot buckled into the fighter airplane, with parachute and all the other items needed. The design was approved in October 1943. It was designated M3. First only issued to Pilots in the Army Air Corps. The leather was russet in color and made under contract with Enger-Kress, Sears, and Boyt. All were required to be embossed with a large raised US in an oval on the front. Same construction details as the normal military issue, but sized for a Smith & Wesson (K) frame in .38 or .357. See prices, configurations, and additions in the description above. These often had leather slides with 6 or 12 rounds that could be removed if necessary ~ $49.95 for six round and $69.95 for 12 round.

OSS SANITIZED AGENT ISSUE ~ 1943 ISSUE FOR COLT 1911 AUTOS
Here is another rare Tanker holster attributed to the O.S.S. Most all of these shoulder holsters had an attached spare clip pouch. They also took special attention to make sure there were no makers marks on any of the hardware, buckles, snaps, etc. However the construction details indicate this was probably made by a subsidiary Peacock Co. with the R.A.U. fastener company of Providence, Rhode Island in 1943. R.A.U. has been making fasteners & snaps since 1912. There rarely are any marks or stamps on the holsters. If an agent was killed or captured they had deniability. Clothing, shoes, hats and other items worn were also without any names or documentation that would indicate USA. Holster with shoulder strap ~ $169.95. With attached clip pouch add ~ $24.95. General Patton 1910 Belt
COLT PRE – WW I BELT– My great uncle, Captain Elmer Stetler, joined the U.S. Army in 1903 as a private. He would go on to serve in many famous locations & finally retire as a Captain as an expert rifleman & sniper. During visits I was often able to examine his Sam Browne belt. This is a wide leather 2 ¼” belt with a double tongue brass buckle, supported by a narrower strap passing diagonally over the right shoulder. History– British officer Sam Browne lost his left arm in battle. He then came up with the idea of a second belt to be worn over his right shoulder to hold his sword scabbard in one spot with a hook. “D-rings” for attaching accessories would be attached to the belt. A brass stud keeps the tongue held down. During World War I, the Sam Browne belt was approved by General “Black Jack” Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Force for American officers as a rank of distinction and was nicknamed the “Liberty belt.”
Basic 2 1/4″ unlined Sam Brown belt without (D) rings or shoulder belt and hooks, and no fancy stitching ~ $124.95. With partial lining and original style fancy stitching add $24.95. With (D) rings, and shoulder belt add $29.95. For utility pouch belt slide with two grommets ad $24.95. We have seen these produced in a rainbow of colors. View our home page for your color choice. (NOTE: While supplies last we will be using “original” Sam Browne double tongue buckles taken off non serviceable belts used in combat. This will be your last chance to get these 100+ year old buckles.)
RAF ~ BRITISH ROYAL AIR FORCE PILOT SHOULDER HOLSTER
Shoulder holsters were rare in the British Military, however pilots were issued them for survival use. This rig was comfortable and out of the way when there was a lot of arm movement in the cockpit. The standard firearm was the Browning Hi Power, however many Colt 1911’s were also used. The Air Force model holster had two button holes in the gun grip safety strap. One hole fit the Colt 1911 and the other hole fit the Browning Hi Power. The shoulder strap was adjusted with a roller buckle.Shoulder holster with snap strap and shoulder strap ~ $149.95. For an internal clip pouch add ~ $29.95.
SAS ~ BRITISH SPECIAL AIR SERVICE COMMANDO TANKER SHOULDER HOLSTER
(Actual photo of H. Till at his saddlery shop in Salisbury, England where this holster was made) This is one of those “once in a lifetime” situations in research where you are able to actually track down the maker of a historical WW2 holster.
With small arms and ammo is short supply, many of the early SAS commandos were issued American Colt 1911 semi auto .45 ACP pistols. They quickly copied the U.S. Air Force and Tanker shoulder holsters. The main difference in the Air Force and SAS models were that the commando style had a Sam Brown stud on the gun grip safety strap and a Sam Brown stud on the belt loop strap. The shoulder strap was adjusted with a roller buckle. Shoulder holster with snap strap and shoulder strap ~ $149.95.

As a result the buckles varied greatly in their basic look as did the belts ~ $59.95. Some original additional parts available. Reproduction single or double tongue buckle ~ $49.95
BH ~ M1910 BELT HOOKS
The “metal twisted things” that most folks try to describe are known in both military and collectors’ circles as “M1910 Belt Hooks.” They were ubiquitous on most WWI and WWII personal equipment, and came in both blackened steel and oxidized bronze versions. Chisholm’s Trail has been fortunate to obtain a package of original combat used “M1910 belt hooks. Some are still in matte black, but most have been polished bright through use. None are bent out of shape. You could use them as-is, if bright steel is okay, or use cold blue to give them a good darkened finish. Many were painted, so Krylon Satin Black renders a great original look–especially when sprayed over bluing. Guaranteed original at $9.95 each.
U.S. ARMY LEATHER BELT FROG MODEL 1912

TSM ~ TREASURES OF THE SIERRA MADRE RIG
Hunting for buried treasure of gold and silver deposits after the turn of the century in the Southwest USA, especially in New Mexico resulted in everyone wearing a side arm for safety. Our version is cross draw but can also be made in strong side. This allows for much quicker draw from under a coat. Much of the revolver is covered by the holster for protection from the elements. A top snap strap keeps the gun from falling out. The gun belt is a civilian version of the military Sam Browne belt with some decorative stitching. A six round cartridge slide assures quick reload. CFH ~ PHANTOM OF THE CABALLOS TREASURE RIG
When the Colt 1911 first came out it was soon after the turn of the century and was initially limited to military use. However, after WW1 many of these sold economically as Army surplus. MGUS ~ THE TREASURE EXPEDITION: Dig Here ~ Lost Mines & Buried Treasure of the Southwest
Alan’s great uncle Stettler grew up in early 1900’s Panama while the canal was being excavated. His father Elmer worked for the Army Corps of Engineers assisting in the project. During this time my uncle would frequently disappear into the jungle and search for ancient Aztec ruins he had heard rumors about. At quick glance he looks an awful lot like Indy with the fedora and leather jacket. Uncle Stettler continued to follow the Aztec treasure trail up through Mexico and into El Paso, Texas and New Mexico areas.
Gun leather was evolving during this period and he carried a big Colt New Service in .45 LC, and at other times both the Colt and Smith & Wesson 1917 models. His rig in the photo has an FBI cant and is worn on a 2″ wide Lawrence style gun belt. The bullet loops have nickel rivets between loops and at ends. BARNSTORMERS ~ ARMING EARLY SOLDIER OF FORTUNE PILOTS
In 1926 it was common for pilots flying U.S. Mail carrying cash, gold, and silver to be armed. Many of these pilots were veterans of WW1 and fighter pilots to boot. THE BARNSTORMER
Didier Masson was an adventurer, as well as a barnstormer, he saw combat service with the Lafayette Escadrille in WW1. In one instance, he shot down an enemy plane after his own aircraft’s motor quit. Masson hired on as a mercenary during the Mexican revolution and used his aircraft to attack gunboats for the first aerial bombing of a surface warship.

His open top holster will accommodate a Colt SAA or a Double action in a cross draw or strong side carry. With edge groove ~ $274.95. NEW WOMEN’S RAIDER BELT AND BUCKLE: Sure & Steadfast marked on the anchor
(Photos of original in our collection)
Women indeed have earned their place in the adventure, archaeology, and mercenary genre. In the last Raider film the heroine wears a leather 1 1/2″ wide, military belt with a two piece “Boys Brigade” buckle. This was a genius idea since this early British “boy scouting” type of group had a girls segment and they learned outdoor skills, gymnastics, camping, archery, fencing, target practice, and how to use an axe and knife. They often wore khaki pants the same as the heroine in the movie does. Our buckle is cast from a British original ~ $49.95. Buckle with correct belt including the second belt adjuster buckle visible in the photo above ~ $149.95. “Hey ~ scouts and older guys can wear this belt and buckle also…”
PYRAMID EXPLORERS © COLLECTION
- Much of this expedition gear is custom designed by Chisholm’s Trail to stand up to the toughest demands of archaeologists, adventurers, and those combing the back country for adventure, treasure and gold. Many of these items have recently been to some of the most remote ancient Anasazi cliff dwellings and pueblos in New Mexico, such as the Puye Kiva ruins, Acoma mesa sky city Pueblo, Bandelier National Monument, and the world famous Chaco Canyon. The majority of these items are based on actual historical gear used in the remotest and most dangers parts of the world. Our symbol for this collection will be the Egyptian “Eye of Horus.” This is an ancient symbol of protection, power, and good health. It is often meant as the “risen one” from the image of a cobra rising up in protection. In 2019, Alan wore and used several items in this collection as he traveled to explore the Egyptian pyramids in Egypt, the Sphinx, Pietra where Indiana Jones went, and the newly accessible King Tut’s Tomb. (Each piece of this gear is branded with the Egyptian Eye of Horus)

HISTORICAL EXPEDITON AND ADVENTURE GEAR
ARCTIC ADMIRAL BYRD EXPEDITON
Navy Admiral Byrd’s mysterious Arctic 1946 expedition, “Operation High Jump,” was the most massive sea and air operation ever attempted in Antarctica, involving 13 ships, an aircraft carrier and 25 airplanes. Somehow the pentagon got word that the Nazi’s had discovered something powerful and unearthly and rapidly prepared an exploratory force to find out what.
While on this trip, a portal to inner earth was found with warm atmosphere and lush plant growth. Suddenly they encountered a mysterious UFO force that attacked the expedition destroying several of his ships and planes. Byrd and his men were sworn to secrecy but this is supposedly a true tale. While on this trip Byrd wore a Colt 1911 holster of his own design. The holster is a very nice 3/4 flap design using a Sam Browne stud for closure. There are two diagonal drop loops riveted on for a secure hold to the barely visible rear skirt. Unlined with Sam Brown stud ~ $149.95. Lining adds ~ $49.95. INTO THE VOID (coming soon)
THE BANDOLIER COLLECTION
(For a greater understanding of authentic styles used, we recommend you scroll down our “Posts” to the BANDOLIER title on the top right side of the page) A Bandolier is a belt fitted with small pockets or loops for carrying cartridges and worn across the chest. They were usually slung sash-style over the left shoulder because most people are right handed. This keeps the belt off of the right shoulder where the rifle stock is going to be when shooting. Just the name brings to mind an image of banditos along the border, gringos fighting for gold with Pancho Villa, or galloping soldiers with criss crossed belts full of rifle and pistol bullets. When you study these, you will find that there were many variations of this belt at the turn of the century and they were more complex than just loops on a belt. Five basic styles were prevalent: those with exposed bullets and loops, others with the loops and bullets covered with a flap, others with pockets, flaps, and bullets poking through the bottom, and finally actual pockets with flaps. Clear photos of these styles show that all were worn along the Mexico/US border during and after the Mexican Revolution.
TBB ~ BORDER BANDOLIER
Most bandoliers in museums are straight belts without contour. They are attached at the bottom with a tongue and buckle end, or a thong, and some with a concho so you can adjust the angle of the belt for a better fit. Standard bandolier with edge groove and 18 single loop bullet loops in your caliber with thong tie ~ $159.95 (additional loops can be added for $1 per loop). For lining adde $40. With edge stamping on top and bottom add $20. To secure with a concho or a buckle choose from the list on our buckle page. For full basket weave or hand carved flowers and vine add $50. As shown $249.95 with full loops, lining, and specialty antique Mexican coin concho. Note: rimless, tapered rifle cartridges will require a double row of loops to keep them secure ~ P.O.R.
LSBS ~ LONG SAM BROWNE STUDS
We are the only maker of 1″ long Sam Browne studs in the USA or the world that we know of. To make ours we had to remove an original from a pre-World War One bandolier and have it cast in our partner foundry. They are easy to install, are threaded, and come with a matching screw like our original. Officers often had to obtain their own gear and there are examples of these being riveted or screwed into place. Ours are screwed (more secure). In addition some bandoliers had the cartridge loops sewn on and some had them threaded through slots in the belt. Ours are weaved through slots (more secure). If you need one to replace a missing one on your bandolier- here they are. These hand cast Sam Browne studs are $3.50 each. If you are going to construct a standard British bandolier you will need at least 10. We have a limited amount of these so if you think you might need some get your set now. (On Sale 10 for $29.95)

THE MEXICAN COLLECTION
There is no denying the beautiful contribution Mexican gun leather made during the cowboy days. The hand tooling was every bit as good as Sheridan and the Piteado cactus thread embroidered leather has no match. We are going to resurrect some of the best pieces with examples of the originals. We will tool but will not hand embroider leather due to the time consuming nature of this task. BE SURE TO CLICK ON PHOTOS FOR LARGER VIEW!!!
The famous Mexican national eagle, snake, and cactus can be embossed on most any holster, belt or pouch. Please specify.

Cárdenas and two other men were found during a search of the San Miguelito Ranchero, after Patton arrived, Cárdenas and his two men fled on horseback, were cut off, and then opened fire on the Americans, resulting in a tremendous firefight between the two groups. Later they were issued Winchester 1894’s in 30.30 caliber. If they could afford it, they were encouraged to obtain a pistol and most chose a Colt SAA, a S&W Schofield or a Merwin & Hulbert.
